So you've been watching tv and want to know the name of the book a particular author discussed on a tv show like Oprah, Inside Edition, Rachel Ray or the Situation Room, right?
Well a colleague of mine mentioned a very interesting website called 'Fresh Fiction...For Today's Reader's. Click here for some Fresh Fiction of your own choosing.
So what can you actually do with this and how can you search? The site has a drop down menu so users can pick a variety of television shows to choose from.
Clicking on a particular show gets you to a page that has the date and names and author of the books from a particular television show. Simple enough, eh? One other thing to note about the site...it has the names of the author and books historically so users can go back and look for a date in the past.
And remember that if you find a book you want, click on this link to see if the library has the book on the shelf.

World Record Heat!
Hi All,
Long-time readers of this blog probably realize that I tend to try to write about things that are 'out-of-season'. (Hence my blog entry from 11/12/10 on Birding and my entry from 7/26/10 on Buying Snow Shovels in July...)
Anyway, most folks on Long Island have had just about enough snow for the year...click here for a link discussing how we are in the midst of the snowiest January on record on Long Island.
That being said, I don't want to rehash that which we are tired of - ie snow - I want to talk about the polar (get the pun?) opposite of snow and freezing rain and cold: heat and warmth and sunshine. Hence the blog topic for today!
Click here for a search on Bing (Microsoft's search engine that competes with Google) using the phrase 'world record heat'. The various links are hot stuff - especially the second one entitled, 'Hottest Places on Earth'
Click here to warm yourself - in not necessarily a good way - for an article from USA Today back in July 2010 entitled, 'World Sizzles to Record This Year' Why is this not such a good way you might ask? Because many scientists think that global warming is the cause of such high temperatures we've been having recently. Click here for a quick summary of the debate from a neutral source: National Geographic. Click here for another link about the causes of global warming - this time it is from San Diego State University.
Okay, now that I've mentioned the serious aspects of heat, let's talk about all the fun ways to spend time in warm weather. Specifically let's talk about Spring Date Ideas, goofy answers from Yahoo Answers about 'what to do outside in the warm weather, and finally, from Time Out New York, an entry called, '30 Ways to Warm Up'
See, even though the temperature hit 8 degrees a few days ago, hopefully this entry will warm you right up.

New Posts in Old Wine Bottles - We're Baaaack....
Hi All,
After a month or so hiatus, I'm back. We've got lots of news for you so let me get started.
First, the library is done with the first phase of the library renovation project...which means that the side entrance to the library is complete. The first floor renovation is also complete.
So...we would love to see our library patrons and our library members come to the beautifully and newly renovated library. It looks great! Spacious, great lighting, fantastic furniture and a sumptious new Children's Room to boot! New lighting, carpeting and much more awaits you as you come to the library.

Just a bit of administrative 'stuff' to take care of...I'm going to try to post on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from now on. Before -as in last year - I was posting on a somewhat random basis.
Yes - I was posting about 3 times per week, but there was no set schedule. I'd like to try a set schedule in 2011 - I think folks will read the blog a bit more consistently that way.
So, on to today's post...
It is a new year (okay, we are about 3 weeks into it) and you might have made a New Years' resolution regarding getting more done at home. Or you might have promised yourself that you want to get rid of excess paper and junk....perhaps...
Has the library got a program for you. On February 17 at 7pm we are going to be hosting a program entitled, 'Time and Paper Management For a Well Run Home' in our Quiet Meeting Room. Click on this link to view the library calendar to make a reservation for this program. Scroll down about a quarter of the way down the page to read about the program and to make a reservation.
