Hi All,

One of the best holidays of the year is coming up.  I'm talking about Thanksgiving!  And all the trimmings!  What other holiday lets you eat, watch football, spend time with family and friends - and not have to buy gifts for everyone in attendance? Yep - Thanksgiving is the day!  Enjoy.

Hi All,

Its official - anything you do for two or more years in a row qualifies as a tradition!  Hence the Thanksgiving Post.

Everything you need to know about Thanksgiving is in this post. Okay...well, not everything.  Just a lot of great, timely links to make your Thanksgiving more festive, less stressful, taste better and more fun for you and for your family and friends.

Thanksgiving weather for the Long Island area...and from News12 - the forecast is....more wet, snowy weather for Thanksgiving.  See link for more.

For a brief history of Thanksgiving, click on this link from The History Channel.  For another view of Thanksgiving, click on this link from National Geographic Kids - kid friendly and still interesting.

For a menu of what is served at a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, click on this link from the Food Network.  And, from AllRecipes.com come these recipes for cooking a turkey. Bon Appetit has an interesting article on Thanksgiving Stuffing and Dressing Recipes.

Jericho Cider Mill is a great place to get apple cider - its a family favorite and goes great with turkey, stuff, gravy, etc... on Thanksgiving. Link above is from Yelp.

Thanksgiving 2013

Hi All,

Today is the day that I post my annual 'Thanksgiving' entry.  It's an interesting one.  Here goes...

What makes a great Thanksgiving dinner? Great question - glad you asked.  Click on this link from NJ.com entitled, 'Poll: What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?'  Well, it seems like Turkey (big surprise) is the winner - along with sides like stuffing, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole.  Yum!  I'm getting hungry! Click on any of the links above for recipe related information - trust me, you'll really, really like it. And you'll find other recipes that are just as good with a simple click of the mouse!  Click on this link for a short course on the history of Thanksgiving foods. Okay, so now that you have the recipes for Thanksgiving 2013, how are you going to cook and bake and serve all that food?  Indeed, click on this link from ivillage and your Thanksgiving Day will, in all likelihood, run smoother and give you less stress.

So...football is a tradition on Thanksgiving as well.  Click here to find a list of the games being played (and the times) on Thanksgiving Day 2013.  Wow - that's a full schedule!  My faves...Packers, Raiders and Steelers (go Big Ben).  Games start at 12:30pm, 4:30pm and 8:30pm on FOX, CBS, and NBC.

And if you have a whole passel of toddlers (or just a few), you might want to keep them busy during the game - and dinner.  How in the world can you do that, you ask?  Easy...click on this link from Bing.  I did a search for 'easy Thanksgiving Crafts'.  Hey, at least you tried to keep the little tykes busy! Okay, okay, here's another link to keep the young ones busy with some crafts!

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble...Thanksgiving is Coming!

If you look at your calendar, you'll realize that Thanksgiving Day is right around the proverbial corner. Coming straight at you in 7 days. Click here for a link to a Thanksgiving Day countdown! Seriously! Who would have thought that there would be such a thing as a Thanksgiving Day timer?

Not all Thanksgiving dinners start at the house. Recently there has been an increase in the number of restaurants that serve Thanksgiving Day meals. Click on this link for a bunch of restaurants that are having Thanksgiving Day meals on Long Island. Note that the link is from Newsday.

Click on this link for an article from Newsday that is a good primer - with even more links - to Thanksgiving Day dinner. For example, the author will be answering any and all cooking questions about Thanksgiving dinner. She'll post answers to the site. Note that the site has a countdown of sorts - for example, it gives you suggestions about what the host/hostess should be doing for Thanksgiving 2 week, 1 week, 4 days, 2 days, and 1 day before Thanksgiving. Clever idea and pretty darn helpful.

The Thanksgiving Day Entry

Hi All,

Well, we all know that Thanksgiving Day is on Thursday. I can't resist blogging about the gobblers (turkeys). It is just to easy and well, fun!

This might be a somewhat long blog entry since I want to discuss some links related to the history of Thanksgiving, recipes and some humor nuggest regarding the holiday. Hold on to your turkey and away we go!
