Things To Do In the Summer With Kids On Long Island

Hi All,

Its summertime and the livin' is good - as they say.  But wait...you've got kids and you need to keep them occupied - you don't want them on a tablet or a phone or a tv or a computer screen all day!  What's a person to do?

Great question and we've got some answers at least.

This first link is from Click on this link from Mommypoppins for an article titled Summer Fun Guide For Long Island Kids. There are some great ideas lurking in there!

The next link is  also from Mommypoppins - this link is titled 50 Free Things To Do With Long Island Kids This Summer.  Awesome resources and ideas.

A website called TripSavvy got into 'let's keep kids busy during the summer racket' with a link on their site called 'Top 10 Children's Attractions on Long Island'.

Mommypoppins seems to be a getting a lot of play on the blog today.  Here's another valuable article titled '25 Things We Can't Wait to Do With LI Kids This Summer' - note that the article is very, very recent - as in from June 2017.

Finally the Long Island Press wrote an article titled '43 Things To Do With Your Kids on Long Island' some time ago.  The article is well worth taking the time to peruse if you want to keep the little ones busy this summer!

So there you have it - a bunch of websites that'll help you keep the kids busy this summer.  Remember there are about 65 or so days left until school starts! :)

Enjoy the resources and if you think that I've missed any good ones send me an email at fdaleref@nassaulibrary.org and I'll include them in an upcoming blog post!

Long Island Beach Guide 2012

Hi All,

If you haven't visited the Farmingdale Patch website, you should. It is a hyper local news website that cover the comings and goings-on in and around the local Farmingdale area.

Click on this link to go to the main page of the site.

So, what else does the site offer? It has a big news section and other sections on topics like events, a directory section, a commuting section and a Pics and Clips section.

The part of the section that jazzed me was the 2012 Long Island Beach Guide. Click on this link to go to the beach guide.

The 2012 LI Beach Guide is divided geographically.  That is, there are sections for the  South Shore - Nassau County, Western Suffolk County, The Hamptons, North Shore - Nassau County, Western Suffolk County, and the North Fork.  Each section has a 4-5 sentence summary for the beach that is being discussed.  Very interesting information is included in each summary.  Beach highlights are notable aspects are discussed in varying amounts of detail.

I would be remiss if I didn't include a link from two other sites: Newsday and the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation. Click here for a the super-comprehensive summary from Newsday about Long Island beaches.  Wow - the site is easy to navigate and is colorful to look at.

Finally, click on this link from the NYS Parks site portion of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, & Historic Preservation.  You can find even more information about parks, beaches and more on the site.

Now - if only the weather would cooperate and it would turn sunny and warm from now until, say, October 31st.  :)  Enjoy the sites and the beaches and the parks this summer.

Regards,
Stu

Famous Parks in Nassau County

Hi All, You wouldn't know it from the weather outside right now (it is dreary with fog, a bit of rain and very, very cloudy skies), but spring has just sprung... And what better way to spend a spring day than at a local park. Long Island has 26 state parks. Click here for a list of these 26 parks. This page has a map to get to each of the parks along with the telephone number and the town each park is located in. Click here for the 'official' Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums website. You'll find all sorts of news about the various parks. Click on this link to find out much more about the parks and museums. This link is almost a 'highlights' page since it discusses the various parks and their facilities and resources. Note that the information is more background type material but is still interesting for the casual user. Parks mentioned on this page include Eisenhower Park, Cantiague Park, Christopher Morley Park, Grant Park, Cedar Creek park and Mitchel Athletic Complex among others. Click here to find a page that links to Bay Park, Christopher Morley, Eisenhower, and North Woodmore Park. Here is a very interesting from the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums: a 'where to go' link that divides the various parks into categories like Active Parks, Passive Parks, Recreational Parks, Preserves, Museums, and Campgrounds. Who knew that Nassau County was so blessed with so many wonderful, exciting, beautiful natural resources in the form of a parks, musuems, preserves, and campgrounds. Well, now we all know! Regards and enjoy the parks. Stu Our Facebook page - great for linking and friending... Our Twitter stream - great for following...
