Today's blog entry is about the consumer.  As in a website called ConsumerWorld.org.

ConsumerWorld.org is a website that enables the consumer - which means you! - to compare prices at dozens of online stores instantly, find shopping bargains, link quickly to product reviews from Consumer Search, Consumer Review, Epinions, find best prices and sales prices at online stores and stores in your neighborhood.

Users can check store reputation via BizRate and the Better Business Bureau as well. The site has links to Consumer Agencies, Companies, Travel, Scam Alerts, Recalls and a place to sign up for the ConsumerWorld Newsletter as well. This link is for customers that want to send a complaint to a company online - the list is very, very comprehensive and useful! There are links to newly added consumer sites as well.

Links to Low Rate Credit Cards, Air Deals, Product Reviews,  Used Car Histories, Consumer Booklets and Consumer Rights.

Food Safety News

Hi All,


Food safety is a topic that should be on everybody's mind.  Its important since well, we all eat food.  Food Safety News (FSN hereafter) was founded in 2009 to provide timely reporting on food safety issues.. Simple - and very, very useful. Click here to learn a bit more about FSN. 

The site has information on Foodborne Illness Outbreaks, Food Recalls, Food Politics, Food Safety Events and more.  In addition, users can subscribe to the site and search the site for illnesses, outbreaks, recalls and more.  There is an RSS feed on the site that can be subscribed to as well.

Articles are detailed and include the manufacturer or seller of the product in question.  Articles are dated and included a word cloud of similar/related topics so users can delve more deeply into the topic in question. Users have the option of commenting on articles, sharing articles or recommending them...  Articles can be sorted as well by 'Best article', 'Newest article'  or 'Oldest article'. 

Users can click on other options on the site.  For example there are links to consumer education, food safety leaders, lawsuits/litigation, science/research, local food, sustainability, food recalls, for foodies, victim stories, nutrition and public health, foodborne illness outbreaks and more.  Click each link above for the particular topic of interest.

Hi All, 


I just came across a site called Food Safety News.  Link can be found by going here. 

And what exactly is Food Safety News? It is a daily news source for information about food recalls, food-borne illness outbreaks, food science, technology, food policy and more. Readers can use Food Safety News to be in the know about food safety.

There are links for Foodborne Illness Outbreaks, Food Recalls, For Foodies, Food Politics and a Directory (which lists businesses whose products and services contribute to the food supply safety net).  There is also a search box at the top right side of the homepage.

Safercar.gov

Hi All,

Lots of folks drive cars.  And lots of cars have airbags.  Takata is a major manufacturer of driver and passenger side air bag inflators and they have decided to recall nearly 34 million air bag inflators (yes, million).  Click on this link from Safercar.gov for more information about this massive recall.  Also, click on this link for press releases, defect reports and more from Safercar.gov about this recall. 

Use this link to find out if your car has been part of a safety recall in the last 15 years...

As a sidenote, the Safercar.gov site has a very interesting set of links on topics like Crash Test Ratings, Recalls & Investigations, Complaints & Defects (link wasn't working when I wrote this blog entry), Car Seats, Safety Technologies and Tire Safety.

Hi All,

Just a quickie post today - actually this afternoon.  Check out Safercar.gov - a US government website that enables you to identify and report problems you might be having with your vehicle, tires, equipment  or car seats.

Readers can find research recalls, investigations and complaints by searching for model year, make or model. 

Users can also find information about child restraint recalls, investigations or complaints by clicking on this link.

The site also has a link for 'Parents'.  Click here for the link.  Click here for a link to Car Seats information from SaferCar.gov.  The main splash page has a very helpful article titled 'How to find the right car seat?'.  On the right side of the page are links for 'Getting Your Car Seat Checked', and 'How to Install Your Car Seat'?

Click on this link from the New York State government website. Link goes to a page titled, 'Child Safety Seat Inspection Stations - Listed by County'.  

So there ya have it.  A few really, really excellent links to help you with your car seat questions for your baby!

Recalls.gov

Hi All,

I heard about Recalls.gov from the radio this weekend. I was washing some dishes and listening to the radio and I heard and advertisement about the site.  Wow - I was so impressed I actually jotted down the name and decided to write a blog entry about the sit.  And here we are!

So...what is Recalls.gov? Great question....direct from the website is this summary:

"To provide better service in alerting the American people to unsafe, hazardous or defective products, six federal agencies with vastly different jurisdictions have joined together to create www.recalls.gov -- a "one stop shop" for U.S. Government recalls.  Follow the tabs above to obtain the latest recall information, to report a dangerous product, or to learn important safety tips."

So there you are.  A one stop for U.S. government recall information.

There are tabs for Consumer Products, Motor Vehicles, Boats, Food, Medicine, Cosmetics and Environmental Products. Click each of the prior topics to go to that particular site.

There are also tabs for Recent Recalls, a place where users can Search For Recalls, and another place where visitors can Sign Up For E-mail. 

Widgets for smartphones and tablets are available for each of the tabs mentioned before (Consumer Products, Motor Vehicles, Boats, Food, Medicine, Cosmetics and Environmental Products)....

Information for the site was gathered from various government entitiees like the USDA, FDA,  CDC, US Department of Health and Human Services, EPA, US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
