24/7 Wall Street

Hi All,

Just came across a well organized, popular and reputable finance/money/investing website called 24/7 Wall Street.  Click here to visit the site. http://247wallst.com/

So, what is 24/7 Wall Street you ask?  As usual, good question.  Basically the site is a financial news and opinion website that delivers content on the web. Many of the articles are republished on other major websites including: MSN Money, Yahoo! Finance, MarketWatch, Time.com, USAToday, and The Huffington Post.

The company publishes over 30 articles per day and has readers throughout North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

At the heart of the site are links to Business, Technology, Investing, the Economy and Special Reports.  Click any of the links above to go to that particular section.

Under the Business heading readers can find other links to article dealing with Aerospace/Defense, Autos, Banking/Finance, Commodities/Metals, Consumer Products, Energy, Healthcare, Industrials, Infrastucture, Media, Retail and Services.

Once you click on a topic, you'll find current articles related to it.  Articles include the date/time when it was posted, the title,  the author of the article, and of course, the article itself.  Readers can print or email the article.  Articles can also be Tweeted on Twitter and posted to Tumblr.

Of course there is a site search at the top right side of each page.  Results appear on the left side of the page after a search is completed.  Two or three sentences of the relevant article appear on the results side of the page - along with the date of the post and a link to the read the full story.

Articles on the site are relatively fresh and are generally easy to read.  You're not going to find the latest news on a particular company, but you will find helpful, additional information on specific industries and/or companies when you look for the information.

Finally, on the 'About Us' page users can have a free daily newsletter emailed to them.  Click here for that link.  All in all a pretty helpful site.  And there is virtually no advertising that can be so annoying on other finance/money/investing websites.

Enjoy the site!

Stu

Good News - Its the GoodNews Network!

Hi all,

Between all the weather related news, international geopolitics and the fact that school began today for many kids on Long Island, I figured we could use a good news blog entry.  And that's just exactly what you'll find here.

The GoodNewsNetwork (hereafter GNN) has, since 1997, been the place that many people have  turned to as an antidote to the barrage of negativity experienced in the mainstream media. Because of its long history, staying power, and public trust, the Good News Network has remained #1 on Google.

Click here for the GNN 'About Us' page.

Users can click on various topics to get 'good news'.  For example there are links to News, Culture, Uplifting News and more.  Believe it or not there is a GNN app - which can be downloaded here.

There is also a GNN newsletter - click here for that.

Finally, there has been some press about GNN - click here for various news outlets take on GNN.

Enjoy the good news and the links and GNN!

Have You Heard? News Sites

Hi All,

News on the internet is free, readily available and covers every possible topic you can imagine.  There is a lot more news than just the Yahoo newsfeed or the Google newsfeed.  And while they are good for broad overviews of information there are other sites on the web that cater to other 'types' of news.

Traditional news organizations were early to the 'news' game on the web.  Some of the more prominent news organizations that used the web to expand their presence include CNN, CBS News, ABCNews, Reuters, BBC News Online, MSNBC, FOXnews, USAToday, Time, Associated Press, the New York Times, and News.com.au.

Note that some of these news organizations cover different regions of the world - BBC, News.com.au in particular.  Also, some of the organizations are international in scope - Reuters, Associated Press and BBC in particular.

Enjoy the links and the news!

Vocative - The Deep Web Revealed

Hi All,

Vocative. Yes - its a website. Yes - its a real word.  Yes - here's the link.

What is Vocative you ask? Indeed - a good question to be sure.  Its a news website with a difference.

"As the site itself puts it, " Vocativ is a media and technology venture that explores the deep web to discover original stories, hidden perspectives, emerging trends, and unheard voices from around the world. Our audience is the young, diverse, social generation that wants to share what’s interesting and what’s valuable. We reach them with a visual language, wherever they are naturally gathering....

At the heart of Vocativ is our exclusive technology, a place where science meets storytelling. More than 80% of the Internet sits beyond the grasp of Google, in an area called the deep web. Vocativ explores this vast, uncharted space, which includes everything from public forums and databases to social platforms and commerce sites."

Okay. with all that out of the way, exploring Vocative is fun, easy and well, educational.  The top of the homepage has a ribbon with links to Video, News, USA, World, Underworld, Tech, Money, Culture and Photos.

As users can see, the site does not shy away from the controversial topics of the day.  Click here to see the Vocativ FAQ - the section on FAQ's to answer your questions about the site...

Enjoy the deep web news reports!

Hi All,

You've probably hear about them on the radio or possibly in a newspaper or magazine article somewhere.   They do surveys, studies, research and more.  Who - or what organization - am I talking about?  Gallup - that's who.

As their website says, 'Gallup delivers analytics (statistics) and advice to help leaders and organizations solve their most pressing problems. Combining more than 80 years of experience with its global reach, Gallup knows more about the attitudes and behaviors of employees, customers, students and citizens than any other organizations in the world.'

Users can visit the website for free.  Of course their is a fee version which companies and organizations purchase for research.  Upon visiting the site users are faced with a window called 'Gallup Daily' which has all sorts of statistics....for example there is data on people engaged at work, payroll to population, economic confidence and more....

There are links to the latest news article on the left side of the screen.

The 'Topics' icon at the top of the page opens so users can choose areas of interest - for example there are options for the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Economy, Education, Politics and much more.

Upon clicking on a particular topic - I chose Education for this tutorial - users are brought to another page where you can sign up for the latest news via email, and read articles.

Examples of articles include, 'Asking a Simple Question Can Change Everything For a Student', 'Don't Wait Until the End of the School Year to Recognize Teachers' and 'Six Things the Most Engaged Schools Do Differently'.

Users can use the Trends A-Z option which enables users to explore all Gallup trends in one place. For example there are options for topics as varied as Alcohol and Drinking, Country Ratings, Crime, Economy, Medicare, Religion and many more.

Gallup.com might be best used by high school and/or college students and adults looking for statistics and information behind various current events and popular topics.

Enjoy the site and the graphs and the charts and the data!

It's All Good (News)

Hi All,

Have you ever watched the news on tv (CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC or any other news outlet) or listened to the radio news and been completely disgusted with all the crime, negative news, corruption, depressing stories of war, death and more?

Well...today is your lucky day, because todays' blog entry is all about good news.  The site is called AmazingNews.org and bills itself as presenting 'positively pleasant news'.  Awwww...that it sweet.  And an interesting (and contrarian) take on the news treadmill that traditional media outlets put forth.

Click on this link to find just exactly what AmazingNews is all about!

Click on the following links to find more Amazing News or Amazing Quotes or Amazing Videos.

The main news link - Amazing News has some sub-categories that are very, very interesting in their own right: Charity, Environment, Featured News, Health, Science & Technology and Society & Entertainment are the major sub-categories.

Readers can subscribe to AmazingNews.org by clicking on this link and scrolling down the page.  The email sign-up box is on the right side of the screen toward the bottom of the page.

Finally, users can search for articles anywhere on the site.  There is a dialog box where users can input search terms (i.e. puppies, sunshine, babies, food, or whatever you want to search for) and articles are displayed.

Get Your Newspaper Here, Get Your Newspaper Here...

Hi All,

Just found a very interesting news website. Its not like a traditional newspaper site like the New York Times or Newsday or the Washington Post though.

The site name is Paperboy and bills itself as letting readers being able to 'Choose From Our List of 12092 Online Newspapers and ePapers to Get Your Daily Newspaper Fix!'  That is pretty darn awesome!  Try subscribing to 2 newspapers, let alone a dozen or so.

Anyway, there is a search box at the top right side of the webpage where users can click on a dialog box to be able to search for a particular newspaper or to do a Google webs search or to search for news headlines.  Simple and straightforward.

A visit to the site lists the top 25 newspapers listed by circulation. The names of the newspapers - and links are included in the first section of the page.

Further down the page is a link to the Top 100 US Newspapers and US Newspapers Listed by State.  Even further down on the page is a list of World Newspapers Listed By Country.

There are links to World Newspapers, US Newspapers, News Headlines and Front Pages at the top of the sites' homepage.

Interesting website and it'll help you keep the conversation going at a cocktail party - especially with all the news that you have at your fingertips!

Enjoy the site.

Stu

Good News!

Hi All,

Just wanted to write a feel-good post today - especially because Christmas is coming and the New Year is just around the corner!

Have you ever heard of a website called HappyNews.com?  Well, it definitely qualifies as a news site - the only difference is the slant on the news that they post/publish/report.

Happy News' byline is 'Real News. Compelling Stories. Always Positive'.  Indeed it is.

The site has News links, Video links, Product links (links to products that are well, Happy related) and Happy Living (issues related to, well, Happy Living) links at the top of the page - toward the right side.  There is also a search box on the right so readers can search Happy News.

Readers can also search various categories of news on HappyNews.com - just a like a regular website.  Categories include International, National, Business/Money, Health, Science & Technology, Arts & Entertainment, Sports, Heroes, Opinion & Editorials, and Environment.

Examples of articles taken from the Health section on the day that I wrote this blog entry (December 23rd, 2014) include:
The Best Way to Fight Germs on Airplanes
Centenarians Share Their Secrets to Long Life
Revolutionary Laser Treatment Could Kill Off Breast Cancer in 15 Minutes
Doctors Announce Historic Breakthrough on Cure For Skin Cancer
A Homegrown Fix for 'Food Deserts'
Study Revelas How to Win Belly-Fat War
10 Things You Can Do To Burn More Calories...

And More...

Note that there are advertisements on the website - they are easily seen since they are at the top of each article.  They aren't too intrusive - but they are somewhat annoying.

One other caveat about the site...some of the articles have been 'aged' as they say.  That is, don't expect current events - as in yesterdays' news.  Some of the articles can be as old as 6 months or more.  FWIW...take the site with a small grain of salt - it is a take on the news, which, as we know, isn't always (unfortunately) happy....

That said, the site is a 'happy' take on news - which is definitely a different take on the news!!!

Enjoy the site.

Stu
