Summer is half over and it has been hot, too hot for my tastes. I thumbed through our 2010 issue of Chase Calendar of Events which is our go to book for display ideas (I had written about this book some time ago). Sometimes they list serious information, sometimes wacky ones. August plays host to many celebrations. Celebrate one or all those listed in this post.
American Adventures Month: August 1-August 31. Celebrate vacationing in the Americas. Tourists are encouraged to explore South, Central, and North America.
Audio Appreciation Month: August 1-August 31. Learn more about the fascinating history and current status of audio books in America.
National Panini Month: August 1-August 31. The Sargento Company celebrates the Panini, a sandwich made with a small loaf of bread, typically ciabatta, that is served hot or grilled.
National Clown Week: August 1-August 7. "Be a clown, be a clown, all the world loves a clown". On August 2, 1971, President Richard Nixon signed Proclomation 4071, proclaiming that August 1-August 7 be National Clown Week. According to their web site "no one really knows who the first clown was, though Mel Brooks has an answer for that question in his hysterically funny movie "History of the World Part 1", in which the earliest belly laugh is caused by when a cavorting, stand up caveman comedian gets eaten by a dinnosaur in the middle of his monologue-to his tribe's great amusement".
